The planning application for the bypass was approved by the county council's regulatory committee on May 16 2007.
Draft land purchase orders were on display at the public exhibition at the Laverton in Westbury in June 2007.
Side Road Orders and Compulsory Purchase Orders were published on September 13 2007. The objection period for CPO was 3 weeks to October 8 2007, objection period for SRO was 6 weeks to October 29 2007. (On plans and maps page OR link to plans direct)
The scheme was called-in by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government following the Orders objection period a concurrent Public Inquiry was confirmed.
Following this a Rule 6 statement was submitted in September 2007 and Rule 7 statement submitted in January 2008.
The Public Inquiry started on June 17 2008 and concluded on 8th October 2009. The Inspector’s Report was issued to the Department for communities and Local Government in February 2009. A decision is expected in 2009, and if the scheme is approved, construction work could start on the road toward the end of the year. The bypass could then be open in 2011.
